Take in the sights
Kilkenny Castle was sold for £50. The 800-year-old castle was the residence of the powerful Butler family for nearly 600 years, starting in 1391. In 1967, the family decided to hand the historic estate over to the people of Kilkenny for a symbolic £50.
The Marble City
There is a reason it is called the "Marble City." Kilkenny earned this nickname because many of its buildings were constructed using locally quarried black marble. This distinctive stone was also used to carve the gravestone of Irish political leader Daniel O’Connell in Glasnevin Cemetery and helped build Cobh Cathedral in Cork.
